My goal is to inspire others
—especially women, early career professionals, donors, and fundraisers—to accomplish something they never thought possible.

I have been told that I am able to help people see the path to be their best selves while uplifting them, and attendees leave my sessions feeling motivated and prepared. Using case studies and storytelling, and leveraging my direct experience as a manager and fundraiser, I create learning that goes beyond the session.

I regularly guest lecture at University of Pennsylvania and Johns Hopkins University on fundraising and leadership, and have served on faculty at Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) conferences. I have led training sessions for small and large groups, working with frontline fundraising staff, as well as volunteer leaders and board members.

My presentations can be tailored to your organization or I can design the curriculum that aligns with your goals.

Our organization is going through dramatic change and we have been charged with transforming how we interact with our community of supporters. I brought Shanna in to train my team to think differently then they had in the past about prospecting, cultivation and soliciting for capacity gifts. Shanna is an organized and dynamic presenter. She worked closely with me to craft a solicitation training that made sense given our organizational history and established approach. Shanna challenged our team to think differently about their work all while providing the essential tools they need to be successful. The entire team responded to her approach and felt comfortable asking questions and engaging in the exercises she designed to further our goals. One of my team members attended a national fundraising (CASE) conference shortly after and said she felt that Shanna's curriculum and what she learned from the sessions allowed her to be in the game for the first time. Since completing our training we have used many of her tools to help keep our frontline team focused on real fundraising and have developed a whole new system of personal accountability that has moved us closer to our goals. I can not overemphasize the impact of her Shanna's training on our ability to succeed individually and as a team.

Shanna Hocking’s presentation to the George S. Pepper Society Council, one of the Free Library Foundation’s premier development volunteer groups, was of enormous benefit to us and to the attendees. Her clear, articulate, and informative session was invaluable in providing our volunteers with some basic tools and a thoughtful approach to our work in the development department. We continue to receive positive comments from meeting attendees, and will certainly keep Shanna in mind for future appearances.
